This month, we had the chance to try the fantastic Easy Layers! Cake Pan Set by Wilton.
The first thing we noticed when opening the box was the quality of the cake pans. They felt strong, sturdy and had a very helpful extra holding space on the side of each pan – this made it much easier to take the pans out of the oven! The Easy Layers! Cake Pan Set includes five non-stick pans which are 6” in diameter and 0.75” in height.
The box also contained a few recipes including one for an ombré, citrus and rainbow cake to guide you, but you could use any of your favourite cake recipes to make endless combinations of flavours and/or colours. We decided to use the cake pans to replicate the rainbow cake pictured on the box using the provided rainbow cake recipe.
We began with adding asmall amount of the Wilton Cake Release to each pan, spreading with a pastry brush until completely coated. We then set these aside whilst we prepared the cake batter.
After mixing the ingredients together, we took out five bowls and divided the batter evenly (we find the best way to do this is with an ice cream scoop). Using the image on the box as a guide, we began colouring the batter using the Wilton icing colours. A little goes a long way to make a vibrant distinct shade. The icing colours can also be mixed together giving you the freedom to create exactly what you need.
We poured the batter into the pans and baked in a preheated oven for around 20 minutes. The recipe made the perfect amount to fill all five pans. The cakes baked really well and maintained their colour. After cooling, we added buttercream between each layer, crumb coated and then covered with a layer of Wilton Decorator Preferred white fondant. The fondant rolled nicely, held well and gave us a smooth finish. To decorate, we added a tiny amount of the Wilton icing colours to five small balls of the Wilton fondant, rolled them out and cut uneven circles using a combination of cookie cutters and piping tips.
We were very impressed with this product; the quality and results were equally impressive. There are no limits to the amount of different layer cakes you could make with this cake pan set. Just imagine five layers of chocolate cake with heaps of whipped cream topped with fresh fruit, it would be so simple when using the Wilton Easy Layers! cake pans. They’re also a huge time saver! As the layers are smaller in depth, they baked and cooled much faster speeding up the entire process.
Overall, we couldn’t be happier with this product; the convenience, quality, reliability and endless possibilities really impressed and inspired us, we couldn’t stop thinking about what to make next! Very highly recommended.
