Make these funky emoji cake pops by Tamsin Aston of Definitely Cake!

Equipment Required

  • Polystyrene block
  • Cake pop sticks
  • 3 x fine, 0 or 00 paintbrushes
  • Palette
  • Microwavable bowl
  • Cake pop mixture (sponge cake crumbled with frosting)
  • Yellow coloured dipping chocolate
  • Petal Dust: black, white, pink
  • Clear alcohol

Using a spoon, scoop out a ping pong sized ball of cake pop mixture. Roll the mixture in your hands to create a round ball. Repeat this for each emoji. Leave to one side.

Melt the yellow dipping chocolate in a microwavable bowl. Dip a cake pop stick about 2cm into the chocolate and insert it into the bottom of the cake ball so it goes halfway into the cake. Place the cake pop into the polystyrene block and place in the fridge to set for about 5 minutes. Repeat with the other cake balls.

Making sure the chocolate is still warm, dip and swirl the cake pop into the yellow chocolate. Tap off the excess on the side of the bowl. Place the dipped cake pops into the polystyrene block until the chocolate has set and is dry to the touch.

Mix some black powder with a few drops of clear alcohol in the palette and carefully paint on the mouth and eyes on the ‘Big Smiley Face’ emoji, and the mouth and squint on the ‘Silly Face’ emoji (leaving a space for the wide eye).

Then, paint on the sunglasses and mouth on the ‘Cool Dude’ emoji.

Mix some white powder with a few drops of clear alcohol in the palette and carefully paint on the big white eye on the ‘Silly Face’ emoji and the white teeth on the ‘Big Smiley Face’ emoji.

Mix some pink powder with a few drops of clear alcohol in the palette and carefully paint on the sticking out tongue on the ‘Silly Face’ emoji. Finally, using the black, paint on the black pupil in the centre of the white eye on the ‘Silly Face’ emoji.
